The Narrated step-by-step video tutorial:
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don't press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake.
Step 1: Start by drawing a circle near the middle of the paper as a guide for Umbreon's head. First make four small marks to determine the circle's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. If you're struggling to draw the circle, just trace the outer rim of a small, circular object like a coin or a bottle cap.
Step 2: Inside the head, draw a long, curved line as a construction guide to help you place the Pokemon's facial features later on. Place this line lower than the middle of the circle. The line should slope to the lower, left side and it should extend outside of the circle a little bit. Outside of the circle on the lower, left side, draw an angled line as a guide for Umbreon's muzzle. Pay attention to the placement of this line and how it bends.
Step 3: Under the head, draw another circle as a guide for the front part of Umbreon's body. This circle should be about the same size as the head. To the left, draw a smaller circle as a guide for the back portion of the body. Place the circle on the right a bit higher than the circle on the left.
Step 4: Under the circle on the left, draw two long, vertical lines as guides for the front legs. Pay attention to how long these lines are in relation to the body. Don't draw the lines too short. Under the circle on the right, draw two more long lines as guides for Umbreon's hind legs. The lines for the hind legs should slope to the right and then angle down.
Step 5: On top of the head, draw two long lines as guides for the Pokemon's ears. Umbreon has long ears, so make these lines long. The line for the ear on the left should be vertical while the line for the ear on the right should be tilted. Draw a series of short lines that connect the three circles together to finish the guide for the body. On the top, right side of the body, draw another long line as a guide for the tail. This line should be longer than the lines for the ears.
That's it for the guides! For the next steps, use darker lines for a more defined drawing of Umbreon from Pokemon.
Step 6: Inside the head, sitting on top of the horizontal guide, draw a shape that's similar to a half circle for Umbreon's eye. This shape should be big in relation to the head. Place the eye close to the left edge of the initial circle.
Step 7: Inside the eye, on the top, right side, draw a tiny circle for a highlight. Near the middle of the eye, draw a big oval for Umbreon's pupil. Shade in the pupil but don't overlap the shape of the highlight circle.
Step 8: Use the lines on top of the head as guides to draw Umbreon's ears. Lightly sketch the shape of the ear around the guide on the left. Make the bottom part narrow, the middle wide and the top thin and pointy. When you get the shape right, darken the line. Do the same thing for the ear on the right. Lightly sketch the shape of the ear around the guide. Make the middle section wide and the top and bottom narrow. When you get the shape right, darken the line.
Step 9: Darken the outer edges of the initial guides to create the shape of Umbreon's head. Don't overlap the ear on the right as you draw the head.
Step 10: On the tip of the muzzle, draw a tiny triangle for Umbreon's nose. Below the nose, draw a short, curved line for the mouth. Inside each ear, draw two short, curved lines for the design pattern. On the forehead, draw a big oval with a smaller oval inside for more of the pattern.
Step 11: Use the second line from the left as a guide to draw Umbreon's first front leg. Just like with the ears, lightly sketch the shape of the leg around the guide. Make the top of the leg wide and then gradually make it more narrow toward the bottom. At the very bottom, curve the shape to the left to create the foot. On the tip of the foot, draw two short, curved lines to separate the toes.
Step 12: Use the line on the left as a guide to draw Umbreon's other front leg the same way. Draw the shape of the leg around the guide. Sketch lightly at first and only darken the lines when you get the shape right. Don't forget the toes at the bottom!
Step 13: Use the angled line on the right-most side as a guide to draw Umbreon's first hind leg. Lightly sketch the shape of the leg around the guide. Make the top part of the leg wide. A lot wider than the front legs. The lower part of the hind leg should be narrow. Curve the shape in the middle to indicate the joint. Draw two short, curved lines on the tip of the foot for the toes.
Step 14: Use the line on the left as a guide to draw the Pokemon's final leg the same way. The top part of this leg will be hidden by the body, so don't draw that section.
Step 15: Darken the outer edges of the initial lines and guides to create the shape of Umbreon's body. Use long, curved lines as you draw the body. Don't overlap the legs that are on this side of the body as you draw the underside. Use the long line on the top, right side as a guide to draw the tail. The shape of the tail is similar to the ears, only bigger. Draw the shape of the tail around the guide. Make the bottom part narrow, the middle section wide and the tip thin and pointy.
Step 16: Inside the tail, draw two curved lines for Umbreon's design pattern. On the top sections of the legs that are on this side of the body, draw two big oval shapes. Inside each oval shape, draw a smaller oval shape so that the end result looks like zeros.
Step 17: Go over the final sketch lines with a pen, marker or any other type of permanent ink. Take your time and be careful when you ink your drawing of Umbreon to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing of Umbreon from Pokemon.
Final Step: Color your Umbreon drawing using colored pencils, markers or crayons! Use red for the eye. Color the pattern on the body yellow. Color the rest of the body dark gray. That's it! You know how a finished drawing of Umbreon from Pokemon.
